| At one point in time an oil painting was just decorative.
But throughout the centuries, drawing has grown into an
industry worth investing in. We all know the famous painters
of the past, and if you are able to buy one of the
paintings, for example by Picasso or Dali, it is a known
fact that in the future these pieces will go up in value. But what about the newer painters that have made it to the headlines in the art world? How do you know which ones will suceed in the future? An art investor can do research and find the popularity of which artist is currently in fashion, and make a higher return by purchasing that artistīs original work in the early days. Many artists are finding ways to duplicate their artwork, this will only make the value of that piece decrease or have little value. Duplicated drawings are no more valuable than going to your local department store and purchasing an item that hundreds of thousands of people can purchase worldwide. There has been many forms of art painted over the centuries from modern to folk art. In which, folk art is now becoming increasingly popular. A folk artist is someone who has never had art college training. One day, for whatever reason they pick up a pencil and begin to paint. Many folk artists are older people and some have been through tragic times and found that through the work they are able to express themselves on canvas and board which has the added bonus of giving them an extra income. Throughout America you can find folk artists whose works are much sought after. The subjects they painted years before and sold for little income now brings bigger prices. Most of this type of artist never duplicate their paintings. Lacking the education and information from some form of art school it is harder for this type of painter to duplicate their works. Reselling art has evolved into a worldwide industry. These days the are many art investors and collectors visiting exhibitions just to purchase a particular style of work.It is useful to carefully check and not to make quick decisions. There are a lot of fakes works, and by reading art magazines and gallery newspapers much information can be learnt. Going online is also a very useful means to research some of the many artists. Art will hold itīs own, better than the stock market does today. However, whether you are an avid collector or investor, art should be something that you have feeling for. Some investors buy watercolours and leave them in a bank vault until the value is at a maximum to resell and make a great return. But more favourable results will be seen if you find a painting that has some deep feeling. After all, this is really what art is all about. Everyone would like that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but the majority of the time, there is more to an art purchase than just the money. |
