LARP is an acronym for Live Action Role Play, an activity, game or sport that is played out by larger group of people, both men and women. There are many ways to do a LARP, it can be a controlled scenario, as if it was a play, with strict rules and regulations. It may just be a simple meeting of historical recreationists, or simply a group of people who want to reenact a simple battle scene.

Those who enjoy LARPing the most tend to be extremely imaginative and theatrical people. They generally enjoy the times of medieval days, and/or fantasy genre. Most people who enjoy LARPing often find it easy to spend time in these reenactments because they often share common interests.

A role playing game is a way to become someone else. It encourages players to come out of their shells, shed some of their natural shyness, and speak up on whatever is on their minds. A LARP can make them feel more confident and give them the venue to express their ideas or feelings without fear of ridicule (well, without much ridicule, anyway).

Reasons that some of these people like LARPing is that they consider it a sport that they can win. Some just enjoy playing with others who do as well. Most players are similar in that they are very imaginative and creative and want to share stories they have in their minds with others like them. It is a chance to show someone ideas that they have and be accepted by others who do the same thing.

Other players enjoy LARPing that is based on the stories they enjoy reading, or other RPGs they played in the past. It is a good way to escape from the humdrum day-to-day life and become a part of the literature they've always liked.

LARPing opens up opportunities to be involved with fantasy, mystery, or historical events. Some people have become so immersed in the fictional role play, that they forget the current reality all together. It offers people the opportunity to understand the character in unique ways that you couldn't get through just passively reading.

There are three types of people that LARP. The dramatist - the people that like to act out following a story. There is the gamer - those that like to figure things out and take part in battles. Finally, there is the immersionist. This one wants to become his or her favorite character. Playing the character is the most important part of his or her enjoyment of the activity.

LARPing is a great way for player to enjoy playing out different roles in different settings. It's a simple way to lose oneself in a character or story they really love.
