| Most people carry a camera along when they are going on a
holiday or trip. The pictures are a good possession as you
can relive the joy by looking at it often. The development
in technology has made this easy as you can even take
pictures with mobiles so can do so at any time and place. The optical element of the camera is the lens and it is more important than the other components in the camera. Somehow some pictures look brighter and better. This is mostly dependant on the type of lens that is used in the camera. Typically, a lens is a single piece of glass with one or more curved surface. When light rays enter glass, they can bend in any direction. The lens controls and directs the light rays to converge at one point. The lens gathers and directs the light to produce sharp and bright pictures. Light enters the lens through the hole called an aperture. The amount of light needed depends on the size of the aperture. Most of us would consider the quantum of light available in the area before taking a picture in that location. This is because lighting has its own outcome on the picture. People who use cameras in their everyday life like filmmakers and photographers seem to have a fair knowledge of the lenses. The focal length is the distance measurable between the image sensor and the lens. There are different types of lenses with different focal lengths. A standard lens will have a fixed focal length whereas it can be adjusted in a zoom lens. Using the zoom lens you can bring the object closer without moving. The focal length determines the focus of light. Manipulation of the light can change the complete look of the image captured. A short focal length would provide a greater depth of field. A picture consists of an object and the surrounding. The distance of the picture can be adjusted to look closer or farther by changing the focus using the lenses. The lens has its own effects on the image and using it rightly helps get great pictures. With the advancement in science, all the lenses available today are of good quality. However, there are various types meant for various uses. The lens with a wide aperture would generally cost more as it allows shooting even in dim light and is fast. By using the right lens, you will be able to capture images to your utmost satisfaction. |
