There isnīt a better opportunity to get some wonderful pictures of your family than at the next family reunion. If your family is like most, there is no other occasion during the year when so many family members get together at one venue. Itīs likely that this annual function is the only time you will see a number of these relations. Even though getting pictures of the whole entire family is difficult at times, you can get some fantastic and memorable pictures if you plan ahead.

Usually instead of hiring a professional, families will depend on amateur members of the family to catch the great memories. Group pictures of the whole family are hard to capture but well worth their weight in gold, particularly years down the road when some of the people in the group are no longer among the living. Remember the following suggestions when you are capturing shots of the family:

• Get ready ahead of time. It is usually wise to prepare for getting family reunion pictures ahead of time. Create a list of the photos that you wish to take, and the different groups that you wish to put together for your shots. Select the location where you want to stage the photos.

• When possible, have your family coordinate their clothes. If everyone has a family reunion tee-shirt, that is even better. If they do not, then just ask that everybody wears a certain color, perhaps blue or black. If you avoid stripes and patterns, or bright colors, then no one person will stand out in your group photograph.

• Make sure that there is lots of light for the family reunion pictures. The flash on a camera only will extend to a particular range. The best natural light outside is found in the morning or in the hour right before dusk. It may also be a good idea to take outdoor pictures on a gloomy day. Never take pictures in full sunlight. One good way to take a group photograph at your family reunion is to have the whole group stand in full shade and face the camera.

• Use the normal surroundings of your reunion venue to your benefit when staging a picture. If you want to have layered heights in your photograph then benches or bleachers or possibly stairs are a great area for a photo. A big group may also be situated around playground equipment. Refrain from using backgrounds that are busy and will distract from the focus of your photo. You may also consider an overhead view of your family. To accomplish this, stand on a ladder or balcony, looking down at the people while they look up at you.

• Keep the spot where the picture will be hanging in mind. When you place the snapshot in a picture frame, will it need to be a horizontal or vertical shot? Knowing that little piece of information can really make or break a good shot and will affect the way which you have your subjects pose.

Youīll find these hints very helpful for making photo time fun and easy at your upcoming family reunion.
