| Douglas J. Kaplan is the senior vice president of the Sirius
Radio company since 2004. As described in news reports and
in the radio firm’s website, Doug Kaplan previously was a
general counsel of the firm beginning in 1999 before moving
on as vice president for business of the company. Douglas
Kaplan has an impressive academic and managerial record to
boot, which explains why in the 5 years he was in the
company he quickly moved up the ranks. After graduating from
Cornwall with a pre-law degree, he took up law at the
University of Pennsylvania Law School where he graduate cum
laude. Douglas J. Kaplan then practiced law as an associate
at the Cravath, Swaine and Moore law firm. In 1999 he was
taken in by the Sirius Radio station, a satellite-radio
service provider with around 120 stations on both East and
West Coasts. Although we have seen that Doug Kaplan’s career was primarily embedded into hardcore fields such as legal and corporation stuff, it is not all heavy work and serious business. Douglas Kaplan served also as president of the Lakeland Prowlers hockey team of the Southern Hockey League in 1995-1996. It showed that Doug Kaplan’s flexibility in working/managing different kinds of firms, ranging from legal practice, to a sports team to a radio station. On a lighter note, it is interesting to know that Douglas J. Kaplan came from a family of Cornwell University alumni. As posted in the university’s website dated 2001, Doug Kaplan’s mother and sister also graduated from the distinguished New York state-based university. Barbara Kaplan finished Labor and Industrial relations from Cornell in 1959 and was president of the student council. Emily Kaplan took up and finished human ecology at Cornell University in 199 before taking up her master’s degree in integrated marketing at Northwestern University in 1993. To add up to this roster, the family maintains an endowment fund, which supports the university’s center for public service, which focuses on civic involvement in governance affairs. Another trivia about Douglas Kaplan also posted in the same university press releases on the Kaplans: As early as in his student years, Doug involved himself in student leadership activities. Doug Kaplan was the class vice president for fund raising affairs. Even as an alumnus, Doug found time to involve himself in university affairs. As of 2001, Doug Kaplan served in the University Student Council, particularly as a member of the Athletics Alumni Advisory Committee, and personally supported members of the university’s men’s hockey and women’s lacrosse teams, in addition to the 1988 Class Scholarship fund. In his own unique way, Douglas J. Kaplan had accomplished much. |
