The climate in this area is tropical and can be very warm with high humidity. The mines provide a relatively secure environment for its workers and provide excellent workmens quarters with good sanitation and medical services.
The Muzo Somondoco and Coscuez Chivor mines are very important historically and are considered to be highly rich. These three mines form some of the major sources of the precious green stone.
Columbian Emeralds are the second biggest exported product of Columbia the first being Colombian coffee.
