  Should you watched Olympic snowboarding this 12 months, you noticed your share of Burton snowboards. The corporate sponsored high riders, together with Shaun White and Hannah Teter, and outfitted the U.S. team.

It is a many years-previous Vermont model, but beginning in June, the boards will now not be Vermont-made, because the high-finish ones at the moment are.

In the world of snowboarding, Burton, many would say, reigns supreme.

Jake Burton founded the corporate 33 years in the past, essentially founding the game in the process. It was a home-grown Vermont enterprise that grew into an international brand.

However, the corporate has found making boards in Vermont is not price-effective, and announced this week it would be moving its premium snowboard manufacturing to Austria, saying it makes the most economic sense.

'Merely put,' Jake Burton stated in an announcement, 'it prices us significantly extra to provide a board in Vermont than we´re capable of promoting it for, and sadly, this is not sustainable within the current economy.'

News of Burton´s impending move rapidly became a blame game amongst lawmakers.

Although the Vermont manufacturing facility will shut down, Burton´s headquarters will stay in Burlington. The workplace employs practically 400 individuals, and those jobs will remain intact. The corporate will close its South Burlington manufacturing facility in June, chopping 43 jobs.
