Work At Home Mums: Making Time For Yourself. |

| I wondered if this subject would be worthy of an entire
article, however it is an vital issue in the lives of work
at home mums which is often ignored. I've typically included
in prior articles the value of getting a healthy lifestyle
and good balance between work and life, with good eating
habits, exercice, time to relax and fun times too. Though we
are all conscious of the advantages of maintaining such
balance, we often priorise work and our children, only to
find ourselves with no time left to take care of ourselves.
Allocating some time for activities which bring energy, relaxation and pleasure is simple, theoretically. Most of us probably make new resolutions frequently around new healthy behaviours. Unfortunately, these usually fade away or don't happen at all. So I have identified the 3 things which, as a sequence, make a strong map for taking up and preserving the activities which can help work at home mums be focused, productive, healthy and relaxed. Firstly, identify your activities. Which ones help you relax? Which ones make you feel focused and energised? What do you like to do for fun? Who do you enjoy to be with? What do you wish to do to keep physically fit and healthy? Whether it's a having a bath, a night out, reading, practicing a sport, meditation, taking a long lunch, dancing, walking, sleeping or having a family picnic, work at home mums should choose the main activities which they can merge in their weekly routine. If you're barely doing any activity of those kinds, it could be easier to begin with one and include more on as you effectively make them habits. Secondly, commitment! One of my favourite words (which also seems to come out so much in my articles). Unless you've established that you will commit to making time for the activities you need to refresh and recuperate, you are unlikely to merge them long-term in your routine. A wonderful aspect regarding commitment is that it will assist you to maintain your new routine long enough to truly experience the benefits, along with assisting you to make habits. Work at home mums who have made a habit of these replenishing activities also do them without feeling that they're stealing time off doing more vital things like running a business, looking after your kids or the house. Thirdly, merge them in your schedule (and carry them out!). This is when commitment will become so essential. Schedules are useful for work at home mums, particularly if they're followed! However if your other necessary responsibilities take over your scheduled 'me-time', you will not create those habits and harvest the rewards of taking care of yourself. Even worse, it could impact negatively on your whole productiveness, drive and general sense of happiness. And keep in mind, it doesn't take much; twenty minutes each day can do absolute miracles to your spirit, body and mind. This is a straightforward system to follow, and in spite of that without following all 3 steps work at home mums tend to overlook their own needs, all for the perceived benefit to their family and business or work. Ultimately, being relaxed, happy, focused, positive and full of energy can help you produce higher results in all that you do. 20 minutes every day: commit, create habits and enjoy! |
