| The ISO 14000 standard was introduced to address the growing
concerns of people from all over the world. It allows a
company to found an environmental management system to
oversee its impact on the environment, and how an
organization might reduce its impact. Finding a company to
provide ISO 14001 training to your workforce can be quite an
undertaking, however. Implementing the standards of ISO 14001 is only the first step. To be successful, the new standard must be accepted and adhered to by everyone in an organization, from the top-level executives down to the janitorial staff. Once a company has received certification, they must continue to work to maintain it. Without vigilance, your company's certification may not survive the first audit. The benefits of an ISO 14000 certification are many. Many companies require their suppliers to meet the standards in order to do business with them, and most government contracts require certification. In addition to the market that is opened-up to those who are certified, a company's public image can be improved, insurance premiums may be reduced, energy and material consumption can be reduced, and your organization will be in a position to better serve the planet that allows it to make money. There are excellent training resources available online, and there are companies who offer both online and offline training. Proper training is necessary to understand how the new standards are going to impact your business, and how to implement them properly. Some companies have regularly scheduled classes located all over the country, and classes can cover a wide variety of topics pertaining to the certification. There are a few things to keep in mind when looking for a company to train your workforce. One consideration is the type of examples they offer. Many training companies have taken a "generic" approach, and use examples that may not apply to your particular industry, or may not have examples of applications that pertain to your industry. You should also ensure that the Instructors are certified, as a certified Instructor is far more likely to know what type of information auditors are going to expect from your organization. It cannot be overstated how important it is that everyone from the top Executives to the workers on the line supports the move to a "greener" operating discipline. Without the support of everyone involved, it is unlikely that your company's certification will pass a single audit. This has doomed countless companies seeking to earn or maintain their certification. Obtaining ISO 14001 training is only the beginning. With a willingness to adapt to the new standards, and apply them thoughtfully, your organization can head into the future ahead of the competition. Your company will be able to bid in markets where others cannot, your employees will take pride working for such a responsible organization, and your competition will... Well, who cares about your competition? |
