| Though times may tough there can be a number of different
ways to provide for your family´s future. An often
overlooked way this can be done, is by becoming a franchise
owner. Even though it is not a sure thing, becoming a
franchise owner can be a great way to see a return on your
money in which you invested. Be sure to watch out for
misleading information from any franchise industry.
Sometimes research data can be tampered with and the
potential profit figures may be raised to make it look like
getting into business with them will be a great deal. Many
times franchisors are furthering the ignorance of a
franchisee on what is franchise fact and fiction. Most times
a franchisee has to figure out these facts on their own. Myth #1: You will earn more if you go with the high dollar franchise opportunities. Wrong! Oftentimes, it´s the complete opposite. The more cash you have to sink in the beginning, the longer it takes for you to turn a profit. Franchisors are free to set the prices for their initial franchise fees and are not indicative of a healthy business chain. You will need to do your own research on market conditions, location and the efficiency of the business model the franchise organization has in place. Myth #2: The bigger the franchise, the more likely you are to succeed! Not True! Well not true in most cases anyway. There can be some benefits in becoming a part of a well known franchise, for instance, they often have a more elaborate business plan, more funds and means to support the brand name and offer group discounts for equipment needed for the business. Group discounts on equipment though can lead to higher royalty fees. Well known franchises are known for their congruity so they have little to no flexibility in a variety of things like, store set up, hours of operation, holidays, number of employees, products to carry, prices and suppliers. Myth#3: I can get super rich and not have to work hard! This myth is really a two headed beast. You may make lots of money but the facts are that most people do not get rich. It is also not an easy task. Buying into a franchise may be slightly easier that starting a business from scratch but it´s still starting a business! You can expect to work long hours, 12-15 per business day and you can expect to wait a year or more to see any returns on your investment. One way to ease the stress of the process is to get help. Experienced professional franchise lawyers and accountants can help you navigate the dangerous traps that many franchisees fall into, such as very one- sided contracts with franchisors. Hiring a franchise lawyer can save time, stress and increase your chance of success. There can be a whole lot of franchise myths and half truths floating around out there. It is your job as a potential franchisee to be educated, do necessary research on your franchise and obtain a franchise lawyer to be at your side to really have a chance at being successful. |
