If you’re crew (or more importantly, you) is more into duking it out than dancing, a birthday spot with games to entertain may be more appropriate than a typical bar / club. Or even if you’re just over the same old scene, and want to spice things up with a little competitive calling, the venues below are sure to deliver. The best part about these places is the no-fuss attitude and all-fun focus. Be sure to all ahead though and reserve space so you’re not elbowing strangers out of your Candyland board. 1. Fat Black Pussycat. This is a West Village staple when it comes to thinking of laid-back, fun crowd and plenty going on. Upstairs are ping pong tables, pool tables, regular tables to lounge out at. Downstairs is a full-out dance party. Somewhere in the middle of it all is karaoke for those that aren’t the least bit stage shy. Something for everyone so no one’s unhappy. 2. Ace Bar. If you want something a little more unusual than the usual board game bars, Ace Bar might be just for you. There’s skeeball, pinball, darts, and pool to keep the party popping until you’re tired of beating everyone at the bar. 3. 675 Bar. When you think of Meatpacking, you usually don’t think of laid-back game bar. But that’s exactly what 675 Bar brought to the trendy restaurant / club district. This is an underground oasis without a snicker of snob. The music is great, and the board games are even better. From Jenga to Boggle to Checkers, you won’t be disappointed. There are also side rooms with foosball tables for the more active enthusiasts in your party. Once guests have had their fill of game night, you can always pop outside and go to any of the other more typical Meatpacking bars to continue the celebration. 4. Common Ground. Just like the name indicates, this is a great place for getting everyone on the same page. The vibe is chill and unpretentious, the patrons are high-spirited and chatty, and the big couches make it easy to flop down for a game of Connect Four. The library-like walls have stacks of fun board games and the bartenders keep drinks flowing for prices that won’t leave your guests breaking the bank to celebrate your birthday. You can reserve the front section just for you and your crew so if the entertainment dies down, the people-watching out the window will pick the energy back up. 5. Bowlmor Lanes. Ok so there’s really only one game here. But it’s still a super fun birthday spot because you can reserve lanes / sections ahead of time, and feel like you’re in a trendy bar thanks to the club lighting and club music. With the competitive juices flowing, everyone’s bound to be a little more amped and likely to stay longer. And when it’s your birthday, you don’t want anyone leaving early so at least you know you can lock them in for a bit once they start the game. |
