  Satellite internet is a lot like the other main broadband services. In order to use the service you sign a contract for a certain period of time. Initially, the deal is usually exceptional, but at some point the normal price kicks in and your cost rises, often significantly. Despite that a cheap satellite internet package is still possible. This is how you can get it.

There is good and bad with satellite high speed internet. The bad comes with the higher cost when compared to DSL or cable internet. The good part is that satellite internet is an emerging technology.

Any new product entering the marketplace starts off costing a lot more than it does down the road. For instance, think about flat screen TVs. They were so expensive when they first were marketed. But today you can get a flat screen at a reasonable cost. The same applies to internet via satellite. The cost drops as technology improves.

You may have noticed that satellite providers dealing in internet hardly ever advertise conventionally. So, once your initial promotion is over, call your service provider and inquire about new pricing, or packages.

There may not be a new package available but you can't know unless you ask. In this industry, changes come quickly, so make a point of calling back every 6 months or so.

The last thing you want to do is to wait until your contract is over. I can tell you from experience that I waited and it cost me plenty. The reason for the offer was that the company had updated and improved their service, so could now offer existing customers a better package for less money.

If I had contacted them as soon as my contract expired I could have been saving $30 per month for more than 6 months. They were going through their customer files and offering new deals to customers who had completed their contracts when my name came up.

Better still is the fact that if a better price becomes available during the term of my new 1 year contract, I will receive it. I just bump my renewal back up to a year.

The bottom line is that the business of internet via satellite is becoming more competitive as more service providers try to get ahead in the booming market. If a company already has your business they don't want to lose you. So the push is on to give out great deals and prevent people from moving to a new provider.

Take advantage of this. Check out what the competition is offering but don't forget about your own internet service provider when you do. Because the fact is, you can get cheap satellite internet even if you are already an existing customer, under contract.
