In the SQL Server databases, a B-tree page is a kind of database page that helps in optimizing the B-tree data structure. In these B-trees, indexes are used to make the searching and other operations faster and simpler. However, at times these B-trees may not be able to perform in the desired manner due to corruption issues. Such issues are caused due to various reasons such as hardware problems, abrupt or improper system shutdowns, virus infections, etc. You should try to find the exact cause of corruption and try to eradicate it. If you are unable to fix the problem, then you should use an SQL recovery tool to recover SQL database.

For instance, you encounter the following error message while working on an MS SQL Server 2008 database:

Table error: Page P_ID is empty in object ID O_ID, index ID I_ID, partition ID PN_ID, alloc unit ID A_ID (type TYPE). This is not permitted at level LEVEL of the B-tree.

Cause:

The primary cause of this error is that there is a B-tree page that does not have any rows. Also, it is above the leaf level of the specified index.

Resolution:

To resolve this problem, you should recover MDF file. To do this, you need to perform the following methods:

Resolve hardware corruption issues: You should run hardware diagnostics and check the error logs to find out whether this issue arose because of hardware malfunctioning. Or else, you can swap the hardware components to find out the exact cause. Finally, if nothing works out then you should format the hard disks and reinstall the operating system to get a fresh system.

Replace from backup: If the problem has not occurred because of hardware issues, then you should check the status of the database backup. If it is updated and clean, restore the database from its backup.

Run DBCC CHECKDB: If the backup restoration method does not work, then you should run DBCC CHECKDB, first without any repair clause to determine the corruption level. Then, run it again with the suggested repair clause. This tool will rebuild the indexes.
