HP SDLT-600 drive attains such extraordinary data density with the help of its high performance MR (magnetic resistive) head. That is why HP has specifically developed a thinner and robust base film for the SDLT-II tape cartridges, which is composed of finer metal particles. The magnetic characteristics of the metal particles are protected with an ultra fine coating layer that help to increase its resistance and durability.
