A huge proportion of businesses today rely on IT. Whether it´s for communications, mass production or research you will find that computers are truly an invaluable tool. At the very least they can be used for browsing the web and sending and receiving e-mails, and literally every company should have their own website through which to promote their business to the millions of people using the internet today. At most though, the business will be entirely reliant on the use of computers and the entire bulk of the job will focus around using software to produce the results. For instance if you are a data entry company then you are going to use a spreadsheet or database for that data entry and thus you are entirely reliant on computers. Alternatively if you are a publishing company then you are going to need to make content to be read in magazines and/or books. Then if you are an SEO company, you are going to base your whole business around improving people´s online performance.

This is where IT support comes in and it´s why it´s so important that you use an IT support company in order to make sure that this IT runs smoothly. If your business is indeed entirely dependent on IT to run, then you will be completely stopped in your tracks and unable to continue to do business if your computers should for whatever reason stop working. Likewise if your computers are not running as quickly or as well as they could, then you will similarly find that your business is stilted and that your staff struggles to achieve the same amount of productivity to which you and they are accustomed. Using IT consulting as well as IT support, it´s possible to know what the best hardware and software is for your company and this is a smart investment that will earn your business more than it will cost it.

Let´s say that your business relies heavily on e-mail. If you haven´t used IT consulting then likely you will be using a free e-mail service and you will be browsing the web for your mail. At the same time your hardware might be sub-par and if your computer takes a while to load up, if you have security problems, or if you have a slow internet connection then this is all going to prevent your business from running as smoothly and efficiently as it could be.

If you have a business with 20 people in one office, then those 20 people are all going to take a certain amount of time to check their e-mails and send more. Now if their internet connection is slow, and their connection is occasionally faltering, and if the computer takes five minutes to load up and occasionally crashes and needs to be restarted... then that´s going to mean that your staff each spend about five to ten minutes longer than they otherwise would to check e-mail. Then if you multiply that by three (because we all check our e-mails more than once a day) and then by 20 (because there are twenty members of staff) then you have 600 minutes – 10 hours – wasted that you are paying for that you aren´t getting back. On top of that by fixing security problems you can make sure that you don´t accidentally leak your clients´ or customers´ information, and that you prevent industrial espionage, and you can prevent viruses and other issues.

This is just one aspect of IT consulting and IT support – and if your company uses computing for more than just e-mail then you can multiply this importance and this potential cost by several times again.
