| It can feel intimidating to work with technological devices
when you do not have a lot of experience.Computers and
devices that connect with them tend to be the most
intimidating.Trying to understand them can feel like a whole
different world sometimes. Everyone and anyone can handle using a hub. They are so very simple and easy to understand. They are also inexpensive. Hubs are very similar to switches. The biggest difference is that hubs are less complex. Many devices, such as routers, have the function of hubs built into them. Multiple computers or devices are able to communicate when they are connected to a hub.The hub receives information from one computer or device. The hub then copies it and sends the information to the other devices. The hub sends the information through Ethernet cables. There are multiple ports on the hub so that multiple Ethernet cables and devices can connect. This means that only wired networks can use hubs. Hubs cannot distinguish source or destination addresses of the devices. This is why all of the devices receive the same information. Switches on the other hand of the feature of reading source and destination addresses. Switches are also capable of receiving and sending information simultaneously. Hubs also receive and send information, but they can only do it one at a time. Hubs are a lot slower than switches because of this. When thinking of how devices hook up to a hub, think of a spider web. The center contains the main computer hooked up to both the Internet and the hub.The edge of the web is all of the other computers or devices that are just hooked up to the hub. Hubs are excellent for small businesses and households. |
