Having known the cause of the problem, the only thing left for you to do is to fix it. First, you need to verify Windows Updates service settings: 1. Click Start -> Run -> type "service.msc" in the open box -> click OK 2. Double click on Automatic Updates 3. Click the Log On tab -> select Local System Account, and make sure the "allow service to interact with desktop" is unchecked 4. Make sure the service in the Hardware Profile section is enabled 5. Make sure that the Startup Type is Automatic 6. Under "Service Status", click Start to start the service 7. Repeat the steps above for "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" Next, re-register Windows Updates dlls 1. Click Start -> Run -> type "cmd" click OK 2. Type in "REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL" -> press Enter 3. When you receive "DllRegisterServer in WUAPI.DLL succeeded" message, click OK 4. Repeat the steps above for the following commands: REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL REGSVR32 WUAUENG1.DLL REGSVR32 ATL.DLL REGSVR32 WUCLTUI.DLL REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL REGSVR32 WUWEB.DLL Finally, you need to remove all the corrupted Windows Updates files 1. Go to the Command Prompt, type in "net stop WuAuServ" -> press Enter 2. Then type in "cd%windir%" and press Enter 3. To rename the Software Distribution folder, you need to type "ren SoftwareDistribution SD_OLD", and press Enter 4. Still at the Command Prompt, type in "net start WuAuServ" to restart the Windows Updates Service 5. Type in Exit -> press Enter 6. Reboot your computer |
