You can make your own clip on earrings with very little effort. In fact, you may even convert the conventional pierced-type earrings to clip-ons. The possibilities and variations are almost endless. Here’s a general guide to how you can make your own earrings of this type: 1. Pay a visit to the local hobby or craft store and browse through their DIY jewellery kits. You’ll require a variety of items for making your earrings – a set of small pliers, thin gold chain, beads, jump-rings, clip-on earring findings (any type, whether clip-on adhesive back, magnetic back, or screw-in back), converters, etc. You can also browse through online hobby and jewellery-making stores, which feature earrings-making materials at bargain rates. 2. Pick colours and sizes that you like the best. Be creative in choosing your colours – you can make different earrings for different occasions. 3. Your clip-on earring beads can be plastic or glass – make your choice. 4. For making simple dangling earrings, cut the chain into two equal parts, roughly 2–4 inches long, depending upon your liking. 5. Now open a jump-ring with the pliers and hook it on to the eye of the earring finding. Next, pass it through the middle link of the chain, creating two equal-length drops of chain attached to the jump ring. (You may also make them of unequal lengths, if you want to make some sort of fashion statement.) You can now close the jump-ring with the pliers. 6. Use your imagination and creativity to fix beads of different colours to the ends of chain drops. The beads may be fixed to the chain using head-pins or an adhesive. (For non-dangling earrings, you may fix beads directly on the jump-ring.) You may even hang other decorative stuff like earring chandeliers to create your own designs. 7. That should make one of your simple earrings. Now, repeat the same steps and make another one. Your earrings are now ready. 8. Now grab the top loop of the ring with the pliers and see if it hangs correctly. This is how you can make your own clip-on earrings. You can make several and use them per occasion or even per day of the week – it’s your choice. Before crafting your very own earrings decide on their metal colour and size. The process outlined above should help you create very funky, creative and useful earrings that you’d love to hang on your ears. |
