Frequent flyer points can be accumulated through the purchase of flights and everyday purchases. Each flight earns the cardholder points which can be converted to free airfare or airfare discounts if enough points are accumulated. The points are based on the number of miles one travels from one city to the next. So, the more someone flies, the more they earn, and the faster they can accumulate a free airplane trip through that same airline company in the future. For the average person who does not fly frequently, free trips are hard to come by. Fortunately, there are other options customers can use in order to gain airline points and cash those points for items such as free airfare, gift cards or general discounts.

One of the easiest ways is through online shopping. If you are already an online shopper, then this will be an easy step for you. Most of the frequent flyer programs have a large list of stores that you can shop at online in order to earn points back for your purchases. The way you would go about this is to log into your frequent flyers account and head on over to their Shopping section. From there, you would choose the online store you wish to shop at and click the link directly from their site. Be sure you are using the same email as your airline rewards account so that the points will be linked back to you. Make purchases you would have normally made anyway, so you are not spending extra money just for the sake of earning some points.

Another way that you can earn frequent flyer points and not have to spend a dime of your own money is to take surveys online. Several online survey sites in the US now give you the option of converting your earnings from doing surveys into frequent flyer miles. While it is tempting to take the money from a survey, the airline miles actually are more valuable in the long run and are worth more than the money offer. Examples of survey sites that allow you to cash in for frequent flyer miles include E-Rewards and Opinion Place. Take surveys as much as possible and earn those free miles for minutes of your time and opinion, which is a fair tradeoff in the long run.

If none of these options appeal to you or you are having a hard time accumulating enough points through these three methods, then you can always log into your frequent flyers account and check out what other options are available to you. As soon as you accumulate enough points, cash them in for a nice reward that you have earned.
