| One of the most exasperating things about rewards
credit cards is the fact that it can take a very long time
to earn enough points to be eligible for a reward or a cash
back bonus. Unless you re willing to break the bank, it can
seem almost impossible to rack up enough reward points using
your current spending patterns. And the points you earn may
have expiration dates, meaning that if you don t redeem them
within a year, for example, they will expire and you ll have
to start again. Here are some tips on how you can rapidly
earn points so that you can start availing of those promised
rewards. Charge all your daily necessities on your rewards credit cards. For example, you can combine all of your grocery bills and utility payments by charging them and then paying it off at the next billing period. Just make sure that you put aside enough money to pay for them instead of spending on other things. Transfer money to friends or family. If you are going out with friends, for example, you can charge the cost of the whole meal on your card and then have them pay you back afterwards. Or, if you are paying back a debt to a friend, you can sign up with a payment service that puts the charge on your credit card and then you can use the cash to make your credit card payment. Segregate your rewards credit cards spending. Each reward card gives you points on a certain product or service, so make sure you re charging on the appropriate card. For example, if you have a card that gives you four points for every dollar that you spend at the grocery, you should use this card to buy your necessities. Ask if you can pay for services with your credit card. For example, ask your gardener or your baby sitter if they accept cards instead of cash. Or you can pay them through a payment provider such as PayPal or Amazon Payments. Use your credit cards to buy gift cards. Many rewards credit cards will give you cash back if you purchase gift cards. You can then use the gift cards instead of charging to your credit card. But you should also consider the fees attached to the gift cards. Or if you can t afford to tie up your money, you can sell the gift cards online, but you will have to accept lower than face value for them. Buy from the shopping portal of the store or organization partnered with your credit card. This will allow you not only to earn points but also possibly get additional points and other perks depending on the terms of the rewards program. Use your card to pay for your medical expenses if you have a flexible spending account. Then you can manually request for reimbursement and use that money to pay off the credit card bill. While this may be a time-consuming process, it is a good way to quickly earn points on your rewards credit cards. |
