The Single Server

All the user has to do is place the packet in the designated place and add water. This type is easy to use, as there is no measuring or cleaning up grounds, and brews very quickly. However, since only one cup can be brewed at once it is probably best only for individuals.

The Percolator

Offered in many sizes, this model works by setting a basket of grounds just above the top of the water. The water, as it warms, is forced through a series of small pipes to run through the grounds and come back to the bottom. It is heated either by placing the unit on a stovetop or one can purchase an electric model.

The French Press

This type creates the richest form of coffee because the grounds directly contact the water. Water and grounds are both poured into the pot and a plunger is pressed down, forcing the grounds to the bottom of the cup and allowing the finished coffee to seep upward. Coffee lovers may take great delight in this thicker flavor.
