Worried that regular straightening will take a toll on your hair? Well, you’re right in doing so since heat damage is one of the main causes of dry and brittle locks. Using your iron to keep your look in top condition has its pros and cons, but if you really want to lessen the effect of the cons then you really should consider purchasing a ceramic iron.

Ceramic is a natural emitter of many properties that smooth, soften and protect your hair from damage; two of these properties being far infrared heating and ionic technology. Far infrared is a much safer way to heat your hair since it uses moisturizing waves that immerse each strand and warms them from the inside out, instead of the other way around. This means that the delicate exterior layer of each strand will be perfectly preserved and your hair’s natural moisture retained for a replenished and vibrant appearance. As for ionic technology, every trace of frizz will be dramatically reduced and your hair will be left soft, smooth and relaxed throughout the entire day. But that’s not all ionic technology can do, this wonderful component also cuts down on hair straightening time to reduce the amount of heat used on your sensitive locks.

Ceramic irons have a variety of benefits aside from its natural technologies, such as a long life span, consistent heating and an ultra-smooth surface. However, not all ceramic irons will offer the same services unless it has pure ceramic plates. No matter how appealing the low price may be, don’t settle for a ceramic coated straightener since the paint will eventually peel and roughen up your cuticles. Not to mention that the aluminium plates underneath the ceramic paint won’t provide the same equal heating or long life span. Although there are a few professional brands that use thickly coated pates, purchasing an iron with solid ceramic plates is always a better investment in your hair’s health.

Now let’s talk about the iron itself. A good ceramic iron should always sport a design that is light to use and comfortable to hold, this being important for reduced hand and arm fatigue. It should also include professional features such as an adjustable heat setting and a swivel cord. Never settle for an iron with a fixed temperature since using the same high heat will wreak havoc on your hair’s health.

The best thing about ceramic irons is that the market is flooded with them, so any shape or design you have in mind is definitely available. You can even choose among hybrid irons that use ceramic along with tourmaline for more frizz control or titanium for faster straightening. Whatever your choice, just make sure that the iron uses pure ceramic for protected hair and superior results.
