How To Stay Safe When Riding Your Scooter

Most people use their scooters outside and for that reason there are several safety issues that everyone should be aware of. Now most people immediately think of the nature and design of the scooter and this is certainly one aspect; the other though has to do with the behaviour of the driver.

The first thing we will look at are what can be called design issues:

The first thing to be aware of is that scooters have a high center of gravity and can be tippy. The three wheeled models more so than four wheeled. You should make certain to always drive up and down hills and ramps and not drive across them. As well it is prudent to stay well back from any sort of drop off that might present itself. If you are looking for a versatile scooter that can be used both indoors and outdoors you might want to research the Pride Victory Scooter. Not only is it available in either three and four wheeled models but is also available in two different versions; the Victory 9 and Victory 10.

Much like cars scooters have trouble on slippery surfaces. Also, with snowy terrain or soft surfaces like sand there is a good chance that you will get stuck. To improve handling you will want to ensure that your scooter has adequate ground clearance such as provided by the optional larger tires on the Pride Mobility Victory.

Since most scooters have air filled tires they will deflate if punctured by a nail, tack or broken glass. One consolation is that when this occurs the majority can be fixed with a simple bicycle repair kit. It is also important to maintain the proper air pressure as this will prevent premature wearing of the tires as well as helping with battery life and range of travel.

Finally a couple driver issues to be aware of:

Scooter drivers sometime like to consider their scooter to be a car. This is not the case. Whenever possible scooters should be driven on sidewalks and drivers should consider themselves pedestrians.

Driving drunk, aggressive driving and over confidence are just a few of the behaviours that can get drivers into trouble. This also applies to scooter drivers. While scooters can seriously hurt other people, property or even pets there is a very good chance that the driver themselves will fare even worse.
