| When preparing to store cigars, you will need to decide how
big of a humidor you want. If you have a huge collection,
then you will probably want to (and also have the money for)
invest in a full-room humidor. If you only keep a tiny
selection of cigars, then you can settle for a tabletop
humidor. A full room humidified for only 10 cigars is a
waste of space. There are plenty of humidors for all kinds of smokers. Even if you only buy one cigar at a time, you can use a single cigar humidor. Cigar tubes are all the rage in the aficionado scene. They're perfect for when you go on a trip or if you spend a lot of time away from your personal humidor. Many folks also use their cigar tubes on the golf course. You will want to invest in a smaller humidor if you keep less than 10 or so cigars for yourself. Many people like to reuse old cigar boxes for their small collections. Since it is made to keep cigars, you don't have to do anything to it, and it's also compact and portable. You will need to keep the temperature an humidity correct. Keeping your humidors humid is a simple process. You will need to invest in a few tools. The first tool is the humidifier, this is what keeps the humidity correct. The second tool is the hygrometer. The hygrometer allows you to measure humidity, which you will want to keep around 70%. Cigars also need the right temperature to survive in a humidor. If a cigar gets too cold, then it begins to lose flavor. If a cigar gets too hot, then it starts to ferment again. 70 degrees fahrenheit is about the right temperature for your cigars. This temperature allows the cigars to age without fermenting them, or freezing them. If you have a larger collection of cigars, you will need to invest in a bigger humidor. An upright humidor is a great way to store a lot of cigars, because it allows you to store them close together, and standing up rather than laying down. This is a great space saver if you don't have a lot of room to keep a large humidor. The other option for large collections is your typical cigar box. It's simply a cigar humidor that you can lay your cigars in to keep them fresh. Just like the other humidors, it needs to be kept at the right humidity and temperature, and you can keep the humidity right with a hygrometer. Temperature is a different story. If your humidor doesn't come with a way to adjust the temperature, you'll have to do that yourself by keeping it in a place that is around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. If your house is cold, invest in a humidor that has a built in temperature system. Now that you know how to keep your cigars fresh, you will be able to buy a collection and keep them. Instead of smoking one cigar at a time, buy a whole box, and keep them in your humidor. Keeping your cigars is an important part of your unique hobby, so be sure to keep them correctly. |
