Let’s be realistic, for some people, the activity of metal detecting is a passing fancy, a fad, one that dies out usually, quicker than the sheen of our gleaming, new metal detectors. But, for the rare few, it is an awareness and enthusiasm that stays with us literally through out our lives.

Some of us who started out treasure hunting and metal detecting at a young age find this to be the reality. The hobby just gets in your own bones early more than enough and you just cannot shake it.

Even though metal detecting often undergoes a terrible reputation or poor press-often misinterpreted by the public due to its solitary nature-with enthusiasts frequently lumped together and stereotyped as typically safe and geekily weird, we are actually a varied bunch. Aside from falling into four different hunting organizations: the mineral hunter, the beachcomber, the coin shooter, and the relic hunter; we’re people that originate from different walks of life. We´ve other interests aside from metal detecting and normally, hold other jobs.

Precisely why are we so into the pastime? What’s not to like? For those who understand what they’re doing, they can really-and do-earn some extra (literally) coin! And several of these coins that they have succeeded to find happen to be worth an amount of money. But, that, to the true hobbyist, is gravy. That is simply a added bonus. The pay back from the pastime would be the act itself. The pleasure to be out there hunting to many of us, is reward in itself. The entertainment of having the ability to take out our metal detectors and stay out and explore is more than half the enjoyment.

Normally, no metal detecting enthusiast will say no to a locate. We all enjoy discovering and recovering stuff. Whether they be useful or just old-still valuable in a sense, but absolutely nothing that could perhaps be offered for lots of money.

So, when The holiday season rolls around the corner and the up coming generation begins following us around on these hunts and begins asking us for their own metal detectors, we are aware that the cycle has begun once more.
