Ground Yourself with Gardening

There is an almost a mystical quality that comes along with gardening, not just the joy of watching life bloom by the work of your hands but by the therapeutic benefits that come along with it. Gardening is the best way to get close to Mother Nature.

Getting outside and planting annuals, perennials, semi-evergreens, or any plant for that matter is going to provide a great deal of relaxation to the body. Whatever it is that you are planting is going to provide the same benefit, whether it is a cacti or just poppy flowers.

You are going to have to have a personal knowledge for what that plant wants and needs. Of course you can get a plant to grow by providing its simple needs, but if you want that plant to flourish you are going to have to develop a relationship with it.

To do this, keep in mind the three main principles of gardening: water, sunlight, and nutrients. Water is obvious, this is the base of all life without it no living organism could exist, so far as human discoveries have shown any way.

Some plants are going to need more water than others. For example, those perennials are going to need a lot more liquid than the cacti.

You can adjust your sprinkler system so that the water output is equivalent to the necessary water intake of the plants. Some people will even create drip irrigation systems for their gardens, but if you have a small one a simple watering can will work.

The second is sunlight, just like water some plants are going to need more light than others. Sunlight is the catalyst of life, water may promote the proper organisms but it is sunlight that spurs it into activity and growth.

Building awnings and greenhouses are a good way to get plants that are not indigenous to your climate growing comfortably in your back yard. This works for about any plant, so long as you control the climate correctly.

The last and most important thing is going to be the nutrients in the soil. This is actually a big part of the plants life.

You are going to have the pH which is just the hydrogen level in the soil, and you are going to have to deal with the actual nutrients too, like phosphorous and nitrogen and calcium and all that. The pH is only going to affect the plants ability to absorb the nutrients through the roots, which can drastically affect the life of the plant.

So be sure you are familiarized with the needs of each of your plants. This is going to make all the difference in your gardens life and wellbeing.
