A Look at the Ceiling Lift

If you have a disabled or elderly individual in your family who needs help being moved from one place to another, then a ceiling lift can offer the necessary help. Sometimes referred to as a track system, it is made up of a lift motor which travels along a well-constructed and sturdy track that is mounted to the ceiling of a room or area of the house. A strap comes down from the motor and attaches to a sling cradle. It is the cradle that the sling is connected to.

When the switch for the ceiling lift is turned on, the strap is then able to travel up and down on the track. What this accomplishes for the individual in the sling cradle is it raises and lowers the sling in accordance with what they need.

There are a variety of makes and models for the ceiling lift. It is important to be aware before you purchase a system that it is not wise to use a sling purchased from one manufacturer on a lift purchased from a different manufacturer. The same can be said for floor systems. Do not mix products from different manufacturers. Always keep the safety of the person who will be using the mechanism in mind.

People may choose from two different types of a ceiling lift. One type is mounted with brackets, and in most cases it is carefully lagged to the beams as well. The other system supports itself and features posts on either end of it. The posts for this type would be pressure fitted.

The systems that are self-supporting are more costly to purchase than others. It helps to have an idea of the cost before you start looking for a ceiling lift.

Some manufacturers will not provide a guarantee for their device unless an approved technician performs the installation. This is something you must think about when you begin to shop around for the appropriate product.

There are points worth knowing about track systems. Curved tracks cannot be cut on a curve, even though they are curved. If you would like to have more length to the track system then straight extensions can easily be added. In order to accommodate the track you can have doorway headers cut to fit it just right.

You need a ceiling height that is high enough to give the lift and the sling enough room to do what they were designed to do. If the ceiling in your house is lower than a normal height, then the height of the system is critical.
