Curtains are one of the most popular window treatments. Although curtains are used in doors as well, its most common application is window treatment. A curtain is defined as a piece of fabric used for the obstruction of light, drafts, and even water. A variety of fabric can be used as curtains. The choice is so wide that deciding is a little difficult. Moreover, there are also a lot of colors and patterns that are available in shops and in department stores. In order to choose the perfect curtains though, you need to remember the following tips:

Measure Windows or Doors Accurately. Measurements are the most important components in choosing and installing curtains. You need to accurately measure the spaces that require curtains. Accurate measurements will not only result to a beautifully patterned curtain, but will save you from wasting your money as well. It is worth noting that as soon as the fabric is cut according to measurements, there will be no turning back. Any errors committed in measuring therefore, results into wasted fabric.

Choose a Curtain Style. Aside from the measurements, it is also important to pick out the curtain style that you prefer. However, careful attention should be given in picking out the style. The aesthetic impact of the curtain should not be the only reason for picking out a certain style, but you need to consider its appropriateness to the windows, or doors for that matter. Whether you like it or not, there are certain styles that fit in specific window structures and designs. In this thought, you need to reconcile your preferences with the requirements of the windows.

Pick out the Fabric. Since there is a wide variety of fabric to choose from, picking one is hard to do. However, the process of picking out may be a little easier if you establish the function of the curtains. The function would then determine the type of fabric that will be appropriate for it.

A translucent fabric is used as sheer curtains. If you desire the least obstruction of light and drafts, then translucent fabric is the most appropriate choice. These curtains are also known as net curtains as these provide obstruction while allowing you to still see what is on the other side and vice versa. This fabric is not very effective for insulation though.

An uncoated fabric is a material that is mostly opaque in ambient light. This fabric provides sufficient insulation, and still allows sufficient amount of light and drafts through.

Buy Curtain Accessories. Finally after deciding on the curtain style and the type of fabric, you need to select the accessories. These curtain accessories accentuate your curtains and in a way, exude a certain atmosphere also. Moreover, curtain accessories are chosen to match the rest of the concept of a room or a space.
