Sure, you may be doing all there is to do to secure your home, and granted, as long as you continue to do them, you always stand a better chance of keeping thieves out, and keeping your home safe. People (you included) tend to leave valuables in these areas, with lawn mowers, chairs, tables, and cars being among the common clutter. If you have no choice but to leave these items outside the house, then do yourself a favor and put up gates or fences around your property for added security.

Nothing beats breathing in the cool, crisp, night air that enters through your open window as you doze off to sleep. Except, perhaps, the assurance that you won't wake up to an empty house in the morning. Leaving a window ajar is almost like telling burglars to loot your home while you're asleep, and admitting that you care more about your comfort and convenience than the security of your home, which means that your home is an easier target than most.

Rethink having your nightly dose of fresh air and settle for a fan or an air-conditioner instead.

...Advertise what or how much you own.

Piece of advice: if you truly appreciate what you have and know that you're extremely lucky to have it, don't brag about it. Parking expensive cars on the driveway or similar boasts will considerably increase your chances of losing it to theft, or the vindictive vandalism of those who think you're too cocky for your own good. That's not all; bragging gives criminals an idea of how much you have, which might tempt them enough to take it from you.

...Announce your security measures.

There's a difference between (a) saying that your home is protected by a state-of-the-art alarm system or a huge guard dog that can bite an intruder's head off, and (b) stating exactly which alarm system you're using and which dog is going to be doing the biting.

What is it? The former simply acts as a deterrent to burglars (which is what you want), while the latter serves to inform burglars, telling them exactly what to expect when they raid your house, and allowing them to prepare a plan to sidestep your specific alarm system and hungry canine.

...Leave personal information for burglars to find.

There are several reasons to avoid this, but the big one is because it makes you a prime target. Crafty thieves don't operate at random; they know that the success rate of a planned heist goes up with the more information they have. Committing this security blunder puts your goods on top of their list.
