Security Alarm System Motion Detectors

Passive Infrared Motion Detectors- These detectors are also known as PIR detectors. The technology they utilize is "passive infrared". The device is installed on a wall in any area of your home. It emits undetectable beams out into the nearby area in several layers. The top layer stretches the furthest and is usually around 60 feet directly ahead and 35 feet on both sides.

The center layer of beams spans the area around mid way and the last layer sweeps the room nearest to the detector. The first part of the dual tech system is passive infrared, which is described above. The next technology is most often Doppler and searches for the invisible shifts in air. If you enter into a room, the air has to shift as your body mass goes into the room. The reason you might look into a dual technology system is simple when you think logically about the the places in and around your house that you are looking to securing. For example, let's say you drive your car in to a cold garage, go in the house and set the alarm for the night. Prior to the introduction of this technology, the pet owner was forced to either lock up their pets from the protected area or deactivate the motion detector making it ineffective unless the pet was not in the house. The technology used in the passive infrared detectors is the identical one used here. The pet immune type of motion detector sends out two sets of beams, on different planes. Both beams need to be hit concurrently for the alarm to be set off. For pets less than 85 pounds, this type of alarm works well, since they are small enough that they are not likely to trigger two beams simultaneously. A human torso is designed much differently with regards to length ratio causing them to hit either a horizontal or vertical pair of beams, depending on their chosen burglarizing posture.

With the pet immune detectors the inner and lower span of beams are pet immune but the top layer is not, as a result of the area between the farthest-reaching beams. Caution should be used with the positioning of these devices confining the high beams from stairways and high areas your cat may jump up on. As well, one free flying bird will seem as though a dinosaur came into the room if it flies close to the detector. Until they create a dinosaur immune detector, this will continue to pose a problem!

But, if the pets you have do not fall into the allowances for using a pet immune motion detector then you should think about other options for producing interior traps.
