Cushions are very ancient items of furniture, they date back to the Middle Ages.

Originally a cushion was quite large in size, and firm enough to serve as a seat.

Over time as furniture has evolved from hard robust items, to the smaller more comfortable furniture that we see today, the cushion has evolved to be smaller in size, and could now be considered a luxury item.

Nowadays there is a wealth of cushions to choose from for your home.

Cushions are available in a variety of shapes, such shapes as bow cushions, star or heart cushions which are available in a wide range of colours and styles.

However, the standard square cushions are still preferred.

Large sized cushions are best used on the floor and offer great comfort when used on sofas or beds while resting.

Cushions can be made using a variety of materials such as linen, cotton, velvet, vinyl or leather.

Many different textures are also available and the feel of a cushion should be considered prior to purchase

A cushion is not only a practical item but also has a beautiful decorative element, a cushion should feel soft and comfortable.

Lines, silks and cottons are very popular due to the nature of these fabrics.

Possible design inspirations could be natural designs that use the colours and shapes of nature as inspiration to create a lovely atmosphere in your home.

Colourful floral cushions look wonderful with traditional and classically elegant decor.

In a modern and contemporary home, bold and strongly geometric cushion shapes may be considered.

The job of decorating with cushions gives you the option of being daring and highly experimental without over dominating a room.

You may choose a touch of exotic for a particular room with silk hand made cushions, or you may choose a striking contrast to a light coloured room with vivid and bold colours.

Whatever theme is decided upon a sense of style and comfort can be added to a particular area with the addition of quality cushions.
