| Many people, when revamping a sitting room, do not give as
much attention to the fireplace area as perhaps they should.
It is ironic that so much more focus can be given to
relatively temporary aspects like wallpaper, paint and
furnishings when a fireplace is something that will usually
be in place for far longer. The good news is that even where
a fireplace does not currently exist, or where there is no
chimney or flu, an effective fireplace can be easy and
affordable to install. The first step is to decide on the size and type of fireplace required. Fireplaces come in a range of styles and materials, all of which can have a bearing not only on how a fireplace fits in with the chosen décor of a room, but how imposing it will be to its occupants; a traditional, ornate fireplace, for example, may appear to take up more space than an identically sized streamlined, modern version. The second step is to work out how much money is to be spent on a fire and fireplace. Where no space for a fire already exists, for example, an electric fire is usually far cheaper and easier to install than a gas or solid fuel fire; the former simply plugs into a socket and is ready to go. The same question applies to the construction of a fireplace. Employing the services of a professional builder or mason can be expensive of course. Yet the alternative need not be to opt for poor quality synthetic materials. Surprisingly, fireplaces made from marble, one of the most distinguished of all stoneware, can be sourced at competitive rates.
