When we procrastination, we putting off a specific work or task that needs to be accomplishes. Some people attach an emotion trigger to it. It remind us of past experiences where we have felt guilty, lazy, inadequate, anxious, or stupid-or some combination of these. It also implies a value judgment; if you procrastinate, you are bad, and as such, you lack worth as a person.

Procrastination and Its Causes
Careful analysis of those situations where your work is not completed is the first step to understanding and solving your procrastination problem. You need to find out if poor time management is the problem. If so, you will need to learn and develop time management skills. If, however, you know how to manage your time but donīt make use of those skills, you may have a more serious problem. Many individuals cite the following reasons for avoiding work:

Lack of Relevance - It is difficult to get motivated if it something that is neither relevant nor meaningful to you personally.

Perfectionism - Having unreachable standards will discourage you from pursuing a task. Remember, perfection is unattainable.

Ambiguity - If you are uncertain of what is expected of you, it may be difficult to get started

Inability to Handle the Task - You may avoid the task completely if you feel you lack the ability, resource

What to Do about Procrastination
Once you understanding the cause and the reasons for your procrastination. Take action to address the issues. Make honest decision about your work. If you want to spend less time on a particular project, admit it. Do not allow guilt feelings to interfere with your realization of this fact.Work to acquire an adequate understanding of what is necessary to accomplish a task within a given time frame.

Know the difference between between activities, which dramatize your sense of commitment, and those, which will help you accomplish the task. Plan your time well. Allocate amount of time that is (appropriate for each part of a task

It is good to get a overview of the entire project. Write down specifically what you need to do for your project. Visualize the steps that are needed to reach completion.
Effective Planning (Big project often seem impossible to complete. They drain our enegry. The best way to deal with this is to break in down into smaller sections It makes the task more manageable.

Realize that you are a human being. You need time for relaxation. Reward yourself when you completed your work This will help you feel less resentful of the task and the work that still needs to be done. Check on your progress regularly. Watch for pitfalls. Assess problems when they arise and do something about them quickly.
