| Sat in front of your pc? waiting for your music to travel
onto your removable media - them precious minutes of your
life wasted - them minutes can seem like forever. This is
where new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 huge impact will be felt the
most. At first there were only a handfull of USB3.0 products
but the balls began rolling and now theres a torrent of host
controllers, adapter cards, motherboards, and hard drives
and much much more on the way - we cant wait for them to
arrive. Ok, now lets take look backwards USB3.0 has the beauty of backwards compatablity with USB2.0 (sadly not USB1.0 but who uses that anyways.) But first you will need a new USB3.0 host adaptor or one of the new gigabyte motherboards. The theoretical improvement is huge a 10x increase, but this will be limited my whats using this new found 5Gbps (USB2.0 maxed out at 480Mbps), devices such as external HDD's such as sataIII ones will be able to achieve 3Gbps transfer rate, imagine it only taking a minute to transfer a full HD movie.. , imagine new mp3 players where you can transfer your entire 100GByte library in a few minutes.. Last but not least USB3.0 has increased power in these ports so external power supplys will become a thing of the past for new USB3.0 pheriphals. While WD was the first to annouce there external USB3.0 HDD, there was a huge following of people waiting to show off there planned devices for release in the near future. Among them Segate which is doing a portable drive, lacia rocstor and Iomega, even non-traditional hard disc drive vendors were jumping on the bandwagon such as Dane-elec and A-Data has products that the showed as USB3.0, the latter two of the lot even had solid state drives, hopefully sparking the begining of USB3.0 mp3 players or even phones having support for USB3.0. In my opinion this couldnt have come at a better time, electronics are fast evolving and a new USB standard can just fit them all together in a nice and easy interface, which boasts a super fast transfer speed and power handeling ability. By the end of the last quater of 2010 most laptop and notebook companys should have brought out support for USB3.0, some PC's are already springing up over the places. But at the moment USB3.0 is a bit far reached for the average user, so for now stick to USB2.0, but the time to change will come, and experts are saying this will be the quickest change over from an old interface to a new one. It is announced that by next year most PC hardware will be supporting USB3.0 and should have phones, mp3 players and other gadgets springing up. Note - As the USB3.0 certification labs are currently full and theres a long waiting list, some manufacturers are using there own USB3.0 logo, and there products are uncertified, but if you choose and trusted manufacturer you cant go wrong.
