The Canon Rebel T1i has been invented and designed to compete with the Nikon D90 SLR. The latter is very popular and successful due to its HD video recording capability. It was even known to be the best performing camera under its class. However, the Canon Rebel T1i has been able to steal the hearts of the DSLR market.

One of the major advantages of the Canon Rebel T1i is that it offers 15.1 mega-pixels. The Nikon D90 only has 12.3 mega-pixels. It is true that resolution is not the only part of producing great quality pictures, but it is a major component. For whatever reason, I found that the T1i flat out makes better images than the D90. If we are going to talk about video quality, the T1i also records better videos. This is made possible by its highest rated sensor under those non professional digital single-lens reflex or DSLR. Aside from that, the T1i is cheaper compared to the D90.

The Rebel T1i has already become very popular for its HD video capability. This device can record in VGA, 1080p, and 720p, in video segments up to 18 minutes long. The T1i produces the best video of any entry level digital single-lens reflex available in the marketplace. It can even compete with the recording capability of top camcorders.

The Canon Rebel T1i uses the same auto-focus system that can be found inside the Rebel XSi. This is one reason why the T1i can produce such good looking images. The Digital Image Core 4 processor makes the T1i a great upgrade for people who already have a Canon because they will be very familiar with its interface. This model has 6 presets for picture styles--portrait, neutral, monochrome, faithful, landscape and standard.

Its start up time is only 10 milliseconds, much faster than its nearest competitors. The ISO setting button has been placed on top of the camera. This allows users to change the ISO level in a matter of seconds. The ISO ranges from 100 to a maximum ISO of 12800. The shutter lag of this model is around 70 milliseconds, which is normal for a DSLR in this class.

The viewfinder and LCD of this Canon model makes it very user friendly. Its viewfinder has a viewable area of 3 inches. It can also display 920,000 pixels unlike the older versions which displayed 230,000 pixels. The IR proximity sensor automatically turns the LCD off if you use the viewfinder.

The Canon Rebel T1i is not compatible with older FD lenses. However, this device can make use of all the other lenses available in the Canon line. In fact, it is pre-programmed with the profiles of twenty-five different lenses.

The Canon Rebel T1i is made all the more appealing compared to its Nikon counterpart because it is $200 cheaper. The camera comes with a wireless remote and USB adapter and an HDMI connector.
