Snowboarding And Skiing

Many people love winter sports. Some watch the winter Olympics with intensity. They get really into the beauty of ice skating and the glory of victory. Others like to get out there and do the sports themselves. Their version of a family vacation is a trip to the ski slopes. They like to see how steep they can go.

The current debate seems to rest on whether it is better to ski or to snowboard. Both options can be a lot of fun! Snowboarding began around the 1960’s. It was inspired by a daughter who was balancing on a single ski. Now, riding down the slopes with a single board is quite common. When it started, it was outlawed. Ski resorts did not want these people ruining what they had going. They wanted things to stay the way they were. Snowboarding was not a very defined sport at the time. Ski resorts did not feel comfortable letting it happen. It seems that ski resorts were acting out of fear.

Once snowboarding became a part of ski liability insurance, many ski resorts relented on their once harsh policies. However, there were conflicts that arose. Skiers, at the time, were not happy about the cultural changes. They enjoyed their skiing the way it was. Now, many more youthful people were on the ski slopes. Those interested in snowboarding often behaved in a rather unruly manner. However, skiers actually developed their sport because of snowboarding. They began to do more innovative things. They experimented and grew from this rivalry.

Skiing now attracts youth just as snowboarding does. Both of these sports are competitive and fun. They get people active and they can bring people together. Many people take trips to go skiing or snowboarding together. Some people today still like to decide which they think is better. They like to talk about why snowboarding is the most fun or why skiing is so much better. The rivalry today has much subsided.

People are much more interested in having fun the way they want to. If other people want to ski while they want to snowboard, that’s fine with them. The important thing is that people get active, be respectful, and have fun! Then, everyone is able to enjoy the winter sport of their choice. Families can take vacations together and friends can hang out together. It can be a great time for anybody, regardless of whether they choose snowboarding or skiing.
