A kayak is a relatively small narrow boat meant to be powered by human propelled paddles. It is basically made for one or two people to sit in what are called cockpits. The cockpit is made in such a way that, whenever the kayak capsizes, the paddler can easily wrestle hi way back upright without filling the kayak with water. Kayaks are very common in the southern parts of Asia as well as the northern parts of Europe. Asian based kayaks are mostly used for hunting aquatic animals such as fish and seals. On the other hand northern Europe kayaks are basically used for photography by way of enabling the sailor to get closer to aquatic life and do closer examinations by taking photographs.

In the United States and several other well developed European nations, kayaks have been used in a different activity altogether from hunting and or photography. They have been used as a sporting tool where men and women can be involved. Unlike any other kind of racing where speed boats may be used, kayaks are naturally propelled by the use of man power either by foot driven paddles or the hand propelled paddles. This makes the sport more competitive as only the human energy and skill to steer the kayak away from waves can win the race.
There are several types of kayaks; and these are broadly grouped into two categories. There are those that are machine driven or propelled by a motor or some engine and those that are manually driven ether by hand propelled paddles or foot propelled paddles. Paddles are composed of either a twin blade for the hand propelled or quad-blade for the foot propelled. The motor or engine propelled kayaks are capable of moving at a higher speed tan the manually driven ones. In most cases, the kayaks used for racing can contain up to four cock-pits unlike the ones used for hunting which normally have up to two cock-pits per kayak.

Kayaks have been around for several years now. From long ago when a log of wood was cut to curve out a kayak to the current modern age where they are industrially manufactured. Over this period, they have taken a very continuous sequence of developments in terms of size, stability and capacity. Back in the days, kayaks were made in such a way that in case they capsized, then they would definitely stand upright within moments depending on the ability of the rower. Nowadays, a paradigm shift has taken centre stage whereby they are built to prevent such things as capsizing from taking place.

In as much as the name may sound so natural and local, kayaks can easily be bought online just like any other product. The sellers have even uploaded photos for the prospective buyers to make their choice well. For instance, just by going to Google and typing buy kayaks online will bring you a long list of websites from which to select you favorite kayak to buy.
