| The pros tell you the route to an impressive game is a
better swing. But more and more golfers are talking about getting big improvements by doing fitness training. And join an improved swing with extra strength and fitness, and the results are startling. One of golfŽs little known secrets is the powerful result of physical training. Fitness in sport is code specific. When you are fit for golf you may not be fit for boxing, for example. Physical fitness exercises for golf has to develop the specific muscles and body parts you use when playing golf, and particularly when you perform your swing. That means neck, upper body, arms, hips, hamstrings, knees and feet. All these areas of the body have to be ready for the demands of golf. And its exercise that will make them ready. Flexibility and strength are also required for good golf. Leading golfers have both, as you know from watching them swing seemingly effortlessly at the ball with the perfectly balanced union of strength and flexibility. Power visualized! Although, actually, strength is doubly important, since top golfers have developed their stability and core strength. Develop flexibility, but really work on cranking up your strength. If this is a little intimidating, there is an up-side to it. The exercises youŽll need to do to build all this can be done at home just using hand weights and exercise tubing. If a golfer is at the gym developing the muscles heŽll never use on the course he might as well be relaxing in front of tv. Instead, you have to work on those specific muscles I listed above. But look out ... when youŽre fit for golf, check your score card! |
