| An essential skill for any teacher to master is lesson plan
writing. This will lead to the teacher being organized and
will consequently lead to the classroom being organized.
Re-decorating very helpful when the teacher is absent,
having a proper plan in place means that a replacement can
take over without compromising the education of the
students. Before considering plans for each individual lesson an overview of the whole year ought to be done. Days when normal lessons will not take place should be blocked out and allowances made for emergencies and revision. Then the curriculum that should be taught can be divided up among the teaching days that are left. For each individual lesson start by deciding what goals have to be met for that lesson. For example will an experiment be done, a report or essay written or possibly a chapter covered in a workbook. Remember to include appropriate home work. Also decide how the lesson will be evaluated and what measures will be used to check that the students learned what they need to. When the teacher knows what should be be learned, they can plan how it will likely be learned. The plan will include the activities that the learners will be getting involved in. These plans should take account of the different ways that pupils learn. The plans should also account for the different speeds of learning that the pupils will have. The next step will be to consider the materials which will be needed. Some items may need ordering and setting up by a separate department. If the students need to bring items in they must be told and probably remind it well in advance. The plan should also include what direction to go when students don't bring in the items they need. Lesson plan writing is a continuous process. After each class and evaluation future plans for the course may need to be reviewed and adjusted. After each course has been run the plans can be reviewed and improved for the next time that the courses run. |
